- I bought a Sportster Vi 28.8 last week. I installed it on an old 80386
- running Windows for Workgroup. There is no sound card installed.
-
- I first set the modem to use COM3, IRQ5. Using QuickLink Message Center, I
- connected to a UNIX station. Terminal works fine. When trying to
- download a file (using sz -b filename) the ZMODEM windows pops up, byte
- counter does not increment, and the ZMODEM windows hangs there forever. To
- try a new transfer, I have to turn the computer off and on, since the modem
- will not reinitialize. I tried with the default QUICKLINK init string, and
- then switch to AT&F1.
-
- As a second step I tried YMODEM, XMODEM and KERMIT. Nothing worked. I tried
- the WINDOWS termoinal: KERMIT transfers works 3 times out of 4 for file
- smaller than 800K.
-
- After that I went through the following steps (using AT&F1 as init string):
-
- - Disabled serial port 2, moved modem to COM2, IRQ3. Did not work.
-
- - Tried using Procomm. Same problems as QuickLink but a "UART error"
- message is displayed.
-
- - Tried using SlipKnot SNTERM. Same problems but a "Bad CRC"message is
- displayed.
-
- - Reading Curt's High Speed Modem page, checked MinTimeSlice and
- WinTimeSlice (OK), set COM2FIFO=1and COM2Buffer=1024. Did not help.
-
- - Reading the NAVAS FAQ, turned 32 bits disk access ON. Set
- ForceLazyOff=CD. Did not work.
-
- Before I go through the trouble of updating the VGA driver (graphic card is
- a VGA Wonder chipset) is there another solution? NAVAS FAQ suggests to set
- COM2RxTrigger=4. Under which section should it go in the system.ini?
-
